The Story Behind the Shot
For this vignette, I was looking for a way to truly honor our Savior at Easter time. I wanted to create a scene that captured both the gravity of the cross and the vibrant hope of the Resurrection.

I discovered a small crown of thorns that felt authentic. The spines were long and sharp—certainly not "namby-pamby" briars—serving as a sobering reminder of the physical reality Jesus faced. To go with it, I found a heavy antique mallet from the 1800s.  The cross was simple weathered boards I had on hand.

These symbols of suffering were surrounded with signs of new life. The bleeding hearts felt like the perfect symbolic floral touch; the bright bluebird adds a burst of vibrance and song. It’s a visual journey from the thorns of Friday to the glory of Sunday. Always remember — a lot can happen in three days.

Asher perched just inches from the crown’s long, sharp thorns. He tilted his head, studying the razor-sharp spines and the heavy mallet. Then he turned his gaze toward the bleeding hearts and the rising sun. He softly chirped once. Something in the garden felt different this morning.
