"Dance Like No One is Watching"
Scribblings
The garden was a riot of color; the air tasted like sun-warmed berries. Grabbing a prize peanut, Perdee broke into a dizzying, feathered spin...just for the pure fun of it. The summer blooms cheered her on. She lived by a simple rule: Dance like no one is watching. But I was watching, and my heart was dancing right along with her.
The Story Behind the Shot
Creating a summer celebration in a photograph sometimes requires a bit of garden-variety magic. For this scene, I wanted to experiment with water. That led me to a rather unlikely prop: a large water heater drip pan! I concealed the rim with soft, green moss. A vintage Mason jar filled with a sunflower, a zinnia, and a few other bright blooms added the vibrance I love. This catbird had just claimed a prize peanut from the lid and was beginning his "twirling" departure when my camera clicked. Captured mid-spin with his wing flared out, he looked exactly like a dancer lost in a moment of pure joy. It’s a whimsical reminder to "Dance like no one is watching".
