The Story Behind the Shot
I really wanted to take a photo of a chipmunk perched in the center of a sunflower. It sounds simple, but this specific flower was a bit small and presented a real challenge. To help him out, I set up a little ramp just out of the camera's view. Of course, I "salted" the flower with a few seeds to get his attention. At first, the ramp was too close. He would just stretch himself out long and thin to reach the seeds without ever leaving the ramp! I had to keep adjusting the distance until it was just right to encourage a proper jump. There was a small wooden stake underneath the sunflower to keep it propped up and steady. After a couple hundred photographs, I had success!
