The Lehigh Valley Flower Show: Flowers and Fun Galore!

In 2024 there was a captivating model train display and a butterfly house. The owners of the show always have new ideas! This show is an antidote to cabin fever; the perfect activity for friends and families…especially with the grandkids in tow!

1. Antidote for Cabin Fever

Spring always arrives early at a flower show! It’s delightful escape. There are moments to simply breathe in the beauty and appreciate the artistry of nature. It’s the perfect activity to share with a friend or family. The carefully arranged plants and flowers provide a welcome respite from everyday life.

2. Goat Snuggling

Snuggling with goats is a delightful experience! They’re surprisingly soft and cuddly, with thick, warm fur. They enjoy being petted and rubbed, especially around their necks and chins. They often nuzzle you with their heads and gently push against you for attention. It’s a unique and calming experience to bond with these gentle creatures.

The Steinmetz Family Farm, located in Berks County, Pennsylvania also offers other experiences, such as birthday parties, educational tours, and appearances at local events.

3. Mountain View Horse Rescue

Who can resist a pony in a hat? You might meet this pony or another sweet representative of the Mountain Horse Rescue. Mountain View provides the care and sanctuary needed to rehabilitate rescued animals. They also educate and inform the public about the treatment these horses are forced to endure.

4. Flower Arranging

Learning to arrange flowers is like discovering a secret language. Each bloom has its own personality.

Rosemary Gish represented the Allentown Garden Club. Under her guidance, volunteers arranged a bouquet and took it home. In 2024 she taught volunteers to make a “vertical line design with nine”. Of course, you must be willing to do it in front of a small, friendly, encouraging crowd.

Rich Mar Florist brings an abundance of blooms and demonstrates how flower arranging is done. Volunteer and get to create an extravagant bouquet under the guidance of a florist. Flowers are passed among the crowd to touch and smell. Many times they’re shown around by Charlotte, the daughter and granddaughter of the owners. At the end, bouquets are auctioned off for incredibly reasonable prices. Some of the money goes to the Mountain Horse Rescue. I can’t say enough good things about this family-owned and operated business!

6. Master Gardener Talks

Do you want to cultivate a green thumb? Master Gardeners offer scheduled talks about a variety of topics. For those who love to cook, how about Edible Landscapes? For a spicy taste, try Growing a Tomato and Pepper Salsa Garden. Do you want more of those amazing hummingbirds to visit your yard? For you, there’s a Hummingbird Haven. Of course, these are 2024 topics and they are subject to change each year.

Master Gardeners are VSP’s – Very Special People. Master Gardener programs are quite intensive, typically involving a comprehensive training course with multiple hours of classroom instruction, hands-on learning, and a substantial volunteer service commitment afterwards. 7. Draper’s Super Bee

Welcome to Our Hive! Watching bees construct a hive is a mesmerizing experience, as thousands of individual insects work together with incredible precision and efficiency, meticulously building intricate honeycomb structures from wax. Did you know honey has different tastes? There’s orange blossom, wildflower, and clover, just to name a few. Blueberry and raspberry honeys have natural fruit flavors added. Bill is friendly and helpful and happy to answer questions about honey and its production.

8. Model Train Display

Model train displays are captivating for all ages, offering a miniature world of wonder and excitement. Watching the trains navigate tunnels, cross bridges, and wind through miniature towns provides endless entertainment and a sense of childlike wonder. I hope to see them again in 2025!
